Wilam Unicorn

Girl is at it again. I love Wilam's style but I wonder if she know's that her inlusion of the unicorn is perpetuating my theme of homosexual representation OR if there is a phallic insinuation with the placement. I'm going to pretend that this unicorn is giving us beard and dub this a real unicorn. GET IT

Unicorn Hotel

Last weekend at TeslaCon I lived in a hotel and now with Robbie visiting I'm living in another hotel. Somewhere there is a Unicorn Hotel (Bed and Breakfast). Here is an old gift that is finally seeing the light of day.

Unis the Unicorn

The most recent costume worn for the first time. My assumption is that this is the photograph of the professor taking the creature back to his study for further research.

The Tudor Unicorn

Check out the Wikipedia article on this one. "The supporters change sides and both appear wearing the crowns of their respective Kingdom. The dexter supporter is a crowned and chained unicorn, symbolizing Scotland. The sinister supporter is a crowned lion, symbolizing England." This is a continuation of the period pieces. They are crucial because the "European" unicorn is one of the most accurate portrayals of a unicorn. So FINALLY enjoy a REAL UNICORN!

Polar Bear King Unicorn

Speaking of kings (and bringing it back to movies) "The Lady and the Unicorn" tapestry makes an appearance in the Polar Bear King. I have to watch the movie again more closely to get a better idea of what the reference was. Other than to give a definite time period reference there was no comment here about virginity, homosexuality, or imagination. The movie is based in a fantasy world so all that I can imagine is that this was the best way for them to make reference to unicorns existing this world. Nothing here informs any of my theories, this post is simply a day of unicorn documentation. Enjoy

Mozart Unicorn

To stay in the theme of costumes movies and music videos I give you "Amadeus Mozart" in the movie Amadeus. This happens to also be appropriate for Dia de los Muertos as a representation and celebration of those past. I am willing to believe that this is a more accurate unicorn specifically in the shaping of the jaw and ears. I am very open minded about the shaping of the horn however the length is crucial. A unicorn horn is generally larger that two feet.

Unicorn Costume

After yesterday's post I thought I would share the progress on my costume. Still some technical hurdles but I'm excited to have a wearable unicorn again. While I indent to make many changes to the texture of the unicorn I'm going to bring this to a wearable stage before putting on the final layers. Updates as the come but for now here you are.

Mass MOCA Unicorn

http://www.rare-gallery.com/index.php?/project/johnston-foster/
We're headed to Mass MOCA tomorrow and I would LOVE to be an artist in residence in their kid's space. So I was looking up the current artists and I found Johnston Foster's "One Trick Pony" The link to his work is above. I want to shout out his authenticity in his depiction of the unicorn. His use of beard, cloven hooves, and extended horn are realistic accurate features of the unicorn that aren't seen in popular culture versions of the unicorn. You know when you spot these features that you have spotted a unicorn enthusiast who KNOWS about unicorns.

Sex Unicorn

Watching the history of sex on the history channel. The question for the common folk would be WHY is the unicorn relevant to sex? How do you catch a unicorn? Use a virgin as bait. Which means that a unicorn is more pure than a virgin. Imagine something more pure than the Virgin Mary.

Snow Unicorn

There you have it ladies and gentleman. The first unicorn of 2011. I found it appropriate to start the journey in unicorn country, Wanakena, NY. While I was working on the unicorn, focusing on its often misconstrued physical features the first unicorn question popped into my head, do unicorns have tails similar to lions? Scientific depictions show both horse tails and lion tails. If both exist than it suggests that there is not only one type of unicorn which shakes the foundations of the unicorn myths. While we are willing to except the range of dragons in existence are we ready for a plethora of unicorns?
