Colbert Unicorn

A lot is covered in this discussion and I can't say that I love any of it. Colbert sits on his pedestal and makes fun of one nation by showing the true colors of our own. His false image of a "gendernormification" of a unicorn raises questions about the morphing of a unicorn. He claims multiple times that only little girls are allowed to like unicorns. I think that the joke is on him because he looks like an idiot for think that is what unicorns look like. He looks no more ridiculous than the Korean government by claiming this is the most accurate depiction of a unicorn available. 

At this point it seems as though he corrects himself a bit because the drawing of the unicorn is a bit more accurate. 

This final rendering is quite incredible and he slanders it. In the beginning I can understand his grounds for seeing the comedy of false claims by government officials how ever blaspheming about traditional renderings is mocking an entire culture. This is no different than his idiocy of unicorn depiction. Unfortunately unicorn enthusiasts I can no longer support Stephen Colbert.

Unicorn Man

I truly think this is rager, scene, candy kid culture, I don't think he's gay. But just in case we'll bring the sexuality conversation into this. Please note the hooves. This ladies and gentleman is a horned horse.

Jesus Unicorn

So here we are on Sunday bouncing from one horned horse to another. In the mythology of the unicorn you can only capture a unicorn by baiting it with a virgin. The unicorn is a symbol of "oneness." God is meant to be the monotheistic ONE. There is a story about a time that God, the ONE, went to a virgin and then we have the birth of Jesus. So it is my theory that unicorns may be a biblical allusion.

Similar to the Polar Bear King post the unicorn references give a cultural reference point to the time period. Here is a subtle design that few notice. One of the trophies won by the hero of this story happens to feature a unicorn. But this is simply a horned horse... it perhaps may even be part of the horse's armor. To continue with goofy cartoon representations and to get back to movies, here is the end of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Look closely at who makes a cameo. While these posts are not featuring movies with significant unicorn appearances the are showing that if you look you will see a unicorn once a day. They are everywhere. Unfortunately, even though this is a baby "unicorn" it is still just a horned horse... it is the tail that is the most telling.

It is important to emphasize that the flow of these posts won't make much sense. The hope is to find a new unicorn every day. No matter where it is. But I can't simply google it. OKCupid Unicorn

In the mythology of the unicorn that I have been writing. The blue heron is the unicorn's grandmother. This boy has Blue Heron in his OKCupid handle. But alas more accurate horn but still a horned horse.

Wiggins Unicorn

Why the unicorn? The circus and safari based animals make a lot of sense. But unicorn is an addition that has no relevance, other than a subtle decision to comment on Wiggins' sexuality. Yes that's right we're looking at the character Wiggins from the Disney movie Pocahontas.  Some unicorn homo action in surprising places. Unfortunately horse tail and what looks to be horse hooves.

Part of my intentions with this blog is to post unicorn creations while having a discussion about types of unicorns. So for a simple Sunday post here is a drawing of a "unicorn."

Unicorn Trip

Neil Patrick Harris trips and sees a unicorn. To clarify in case you weren't aware, Neil Patrick Harris is an openly gay actor. When I first saw this clip I explained my parrallell of homosexuals with unicorns to my friend in the room. They mentioned that the unicorn was used to discribe that it was emphasizing the hallucination because unicorns aren't real. After I calmed down from my explosive reaction to the comment that they are not real, I began to explain there are many other creatures and visions that could have been used. The unicorn was specifically used in association with his homosexuality.

Halloween Costume Unicorn

In honor of the day naturally the need to post a costume. Thank you for continuing to share through Facebook. This is the result of improper representation of unicorns through pop culture. I enjoy the humor of the wig but unfortunately we have a bastardization of the beloved unicorn at the expense of unnecessary humor. Through future projects I hope to use images like the above and describe them as atrocities. I will dress in a full three piece suit and explain how we need to advocate for the appropriate representation of the unicorn. These performances will travel to the places that religious and anti abortion groups are protesting to reexamine the act of "preaching" which I use to mean forcefully pushing your beliefs blindly on others. 

Lady Gaga Music Video Unicorn

Here is a continued use of the unicorn as a homosexual symbol in Lady Gaga's Born This Way music video. She intertwines rainbows, lyrics about LGBTQAP community members, and the Holocaust based pink triangle with unicorns. There is a clear discussion about unicorns and their connection to the homosexual community. But it is hard to tell weather this is a comment about misconception of the gay community because she is incorrectly depicting unicorns.

I think that this is an absurdist video, please note that I'm not calling it absurd look up absurdism, I truly enjoy absurdism I'm just not sure what the relevance is in Kesha's Blow music video. Guess who's back?

Hello hello!
I finished my unicorn costume yesterday (well constructed it to a place of satisfaction for this stage) and decided I would wait until a unicorn came along. Enter the pop culture informed boyfriend. He sends me this link of a Nicki Minaj music video.. It's interesting that this is all happening around Halloween and further that this video is posted in the context of my work and my current projects. Today I'm weaving cloth that will soon become a mermaid tail. So it is very fitting that this fairytale music video be the first unicorn for my third attempt for daily unicorn posting.
I used to struggle with pop culture appearances of ideas I've had, I think that's something all "inventors" find to be a motivation eraser. But as I've been creating and finding my visual themes I'm realizing that this may have many of the same visuals it says nothing to my concepts. I'm finding that going through processes just to experiencing them turns out to be extremely education and opens my mind to new ideas. Also now that the depth of my research is expanding I'm able to compare ideas to discover what works and what doesn't. For example I find the "War Horse" costumes to be far more inspiring than Nicki's unicorn costume.

Also I'm beginning to become very frustrated with the misrepresentation and lack of creativity in the "horned horse." Two fundamental unicorn physical characteristics are constantly misrepresented. Unicorns have cloven hooves and the horns are at least two feet long when fully grown.
So today I will present Nicki's Unicorn costume as my unicorn for October 27th 2012

Tangled Unicorn

To stay with the movie theme we can't forget that "Vladmir collects ceramic U-NI-COOOOORNS" BUT did you see the HIDDEN unicorn in the movie. I DID! I also like that this weeks unicorns are unicorns on the front of boats. Motif? Unfortunately you can spot the "Horned Horse" because this "unicorn" has a horse's tail, therefore, NOT a unicorn :(

Tintin Unicorn

Couldn't find a good movie to watch this evening so I decided to watch some trailers. Excited to announce ANOTHER movie with "unicorns" "HORNED HORSE" hooves are not cloven and horn is too short. The movie "The Adventures of Tintin." Again with the weird connections..... here at my residency in Troy the only names/pictures that appear on shirts that I have with me are... Unicorns, Wanakena, Kerm Remele, Marie Antoinette, AND TINTIN! WILD anyway from these pictures I would like to assume that the secret of the movie actually revolves around unicorns. One of the highlighted words happens to be unicorn. So I can't wait to re-post this movie with hopefully a NEW image of a unicorn the first time I see it. Out in theaters December 21st WOO!
